Our 4th Anniversary

Today, January 13, 2020, ULEAD Institute celebrates our 4th Anniversary. The past year, ULEAD Institute continued to provide leadership development services to students in the Washington, DC area. Additionally, our Founder & Executive Director, Kenneth L. Jacobs, also accepted various speaking engagements, advancing the mission of ULEAD Institute.

Here are some milestones from the past year:

2019 ULEAD Summit

In April, we hosted the annual ULEAD Summit. There were 20 students who joined us for a day of interactive sessions on leadership development, financial literacy, community engagement, and college readiness.

Throughout the day summit attendees engaged with our college mentors from various colleges and universities. Most of our mentors were interns from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. and the United Negro College Fund, Inc. The mentors assisted the summit attendees with their activities and served on our 'College Life Panel', discussing what college is like and how to prepare.

The day concluded with summit attendees working on the community impact projects and hearing from community leaders on how to be impactful leaders in the community. Our community impact panel consisted of leaders from private, nonprofit, and government sectors. See all photos from the 2019 ULEAD Summit.

Speaking Engagements at Rider University

Mr. Jacobs participated in a number of speaking engagements at Rider University:

  • August 2019 - Spoke to students of the Multicultural Student Leadership Institute on how to navigate through college and introduced students to ULEAD Institute's Core Principles of Leadership.

  • September 2019 - Spoke with students of the Leadership Development Program ('LDP') for the "Breakfast & Mentoring" session and "Public Speaking" workshop. During the mentoring session, Mr. Jacobs took questions from students on how to manage time, address leadership roles, and how to transition from college to career. At the workshop session, students were taught how to be effective communicators and overcome public speaking fears.

  • October 2019 - Keynote speaker for LDP new inductees. Mr. Jacobs spoke on his philosophy of leadership, that leadership is centered in individuals using their gifts and talents to serve the community.

We are excited to see what happens as we head to 5 years of service!
